约翰犹豫半天，他害怕独处，但听到那些敲击声，又阵阵害怕，最终他决定听比尔的话，颤颤巍巍回到缆车附近。
缆车附近有光，就没有那么害怕。

约翰回到缆车附近，用铁镐敲击钢索，试着弄出挖掘声，声音通过钢索传回上方。
敲击声在狭长矿洞回响，他又开始害怕。

停止敲击钢索，耳朵紧贴石壁，他好像听见……
